Has Taylor Swift gone and become a completely new person, bitter and enraged by her exes, the media, and the ill treatment she has undergone — or is her new song commentary on all of the above (as in “Blank Space”)?
When I first got to the chorus of LWYMMD, I was appalled with Taylor’s new music style. The lyrics seemed to scream bitterness – as a friend of mine commented, when it came to harsh treatment from the media and people in her life, she didn’t seem to be able to “Shake It Off” anymore. The lyrics that shook me the most are probably, “I’m sorry, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh… because she’s dead.” The instagram post on which Taylor captioned, “There will be no further explanation. There will just be reputation,” only seemed to confirm my fears. And then that music video starting with a zombie Taylor Swift… *shudders* It wasn’t looking good. But after following Taylor’s career for so long, and seeing her appear to lose that sweetness and enthusiasm she used to have, perhaps I was just too emotionally involved and that blinded me.

Rather than sticking to one artist as when I have great favourites for a letter, I’m just going to post songs from a singer and band I like (but not as much as others), as well as perhaps a couple singletons. Main two are Gabrielle Aplin and A Great Big World.
1. What draws me to these particular artists’ music?
Gabrielle Aplin has a very lovely voice. While I haven’t listened to her more recent album, I love the soft indie sound of her first, English Rain. As for A Great Big World, I just really like a bunch of their songs – either because they hit me hard because they’re tragically beautiful – or is beautifully tragic?? (like “Say Something”) or because they’re just so happy and cute and make me smile (like “Cheer Up!”).

Just for warning, there will be at least two more days with the letter F. (Seems like a lot of my favourite bands start with the letter F.)
Tread carefully now. This is where Anna opens up her heart and talks about the past and gets all poetic.
1. What draws me to this particular artist’s music?
I discovered Fall Out Boy two years ago during the spring, just in time for tragedy to strike in my own life. I’m not going to go into details, but looking in retrospective, I realize how good God is. This band grew very close to my heart, the songs sometimes being the only comfort I have. I’ve never met Pete Wentz, but from reading his lyrics and closing my eyes and listening to the words, he really knew just how I was feeling. During the worst times, I imagined Pete and Patrick to be two sides of my guardian angel, being my little cheerleaders. You can do this, Anna, they’d say. You can get up and go to class. or I know it’s cold, but you can get off the train and make it to school. It’s okay. You can do this. (Definitely incorporating this into one of my novels.)
While I don’t listen to this band anywhere as much as I used to, they’re still quite close to my heart. I absolute detest the sound of their latest song, but that’s okay. I’ve moved on from Fall Out Boy and they’ve moved on, too. I still like their older music better than their newer, anyway. Those are the songs that will always stay with me.

I know, I know. Anna, that’s so mainstream. Ed Sheeran? Seriously? Well, I won’t apologize. 😉 I think he writes excellent love songs as well as some really catchy hits. I like Ed’s voice and his lyrics are great – he’s one of the better song writers of our time, I would go so far to argue. [divide] is probably one of my favourite albums ever. I got just as excited about it as I did about Amber Run’s For a Moment, I Was Lost.
Since I answered my usual first two questions already in that little blurb, let’s go on to question #3, shall we?
3. What is my favourite song from this artist?
“I’m a Mess” … “Don’t” … “Eraser” … “Supermarket Flowers” (*cue ugly sobbing*) … and, of course, “Give Me Love”
